Biscuit’s having a week, and so am I

Biscuit

I noticed on Tuesday that Biscuit was moving slower than usual coming down the stairs. Not limping, nothing dramatic, just slower. The kind of slow that a nine-year-old dog does sometimes when the morning is cold and the joints take a minute to agree to participate. I watched her for a day, watched her again on Wednesday, and on Thursday I took her to the vet.

The vet did not find anything specific to worry about. Checked her over, noted some stiffness in her back legs consistent with age, said to watch it and come back if it got worse. Standard stuff. I sat in the exam room with her while she stood on the table looking at me with the patient expression she always has at the vet, like she is tolerating the whole thing as a favor to me personally, which she probably is.

We drove home. She sat in the back seat. I drove and did not say anything and she did not say anything, which is usually how our drives go.

The afternoon was slow. I put the game on low, nothing important, just sound. Biscuit got on the couch and stayed there, which she does more than she used to. Rusty found something under the armchair that required sustained investigation and was occupied for about forty-five minutes, which was probably the most useful thing that happened all day because it meant he was quiet.

I am sixty-three years old and I am fine. Nothing is wrong with me specifically. I just had one of those days where the house felt like it had more square footage than usual, and Biscuit was having a slow day, and the two things together made for a quiet afternoon that I did not entirely know what to do with.

I made dinner. I watched the second half of something I’d started earlier in the week and forgotten about. Biscuit moved from the couch to the floor near the back door around seven, which is her usual spot, which meant she was feeling more or less like herself. I took that as a good sign and went to bed at a reasonable hour, which I consider a small victory on a Thursday.

She is fine. I am fine. Some days are just slow and slippy and there is not much more to say about it than that.

More soon, probably tomorrow if Rusty does something worth writing about, which historically takes about twenty-four hours.

Hey, thanks for stopping by. This is just a place where I write about everything I’ve tried lately: old watches, the dogs, movies, interesting sports games, and any new app or website that catches my eye. Just one guy’s take, nothing more
